Shoreline Sentinel June 2023

Summer is here!! There are now a lot of things happening in Northwest Michigan. All the summer attractions are now open that draw people to our area. There is no better place to serve the Lord during the summer than in the Shoreline Chapter. We still have places open for you to schedule a 5-Day Club® in your neighborhood. It can be in a home or a park near you. So, if you have lots of children around that need to hear the  Gospel, give us a call to schedule your 5-Day Club.

Fairs and Festivals

Another big part of our summer is the fair and festival ministry. This ministry kicks off this month with the Asparagus Festival in Hart. Last year, over 100 people came through the Gospel tent to hear a five- to ten-minute Bible lesson. We are praying for more this year. There are three more festivals in July and then we have three fairs in August. We still need volunteers for the fairs and festivals in July and August. The fairs and festivals with the dates are listed. If you are able to come help us, please contact our office.

National Conference

May 8—12 Wendy and I had the great privilege to go to the Child Evangelism Fellowship® National Conference at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ashland, NC. This year, we worked as guides to help others that were at the conference. We had to be there a day early to unload a truck from the Headquarters to the chapel, greeting area, and exhibit hall. That was a very hard job to do, but we were all glad that the weather was not too hot. That first night Fred Pry, Asst. Vice President of USA Ministries, took the guides out to eat at a nearby restaurant. The second day the work began. As people were arriving, we were showing them where to check in, and helping them to their rooms. We gave rides to people needing it.   During the conference, there were daily general sessions and workshops. For the general sessions, we had Dr. Crawford Loritts and Dr. Erwin Lutzer as the main speakers. Both were excellent. Wendy and I were able to go to some workshops. Niah and Allisha Merrill led the worship time. I had a chance to talk to them about coming to our area to do a concert. The last evening, we had a closing concert with the 3 Heath Brothers. The highlight was that Wendy and I were recognized for 25 years of service. Overall, it was a great conference. It was great being able to fellowship with other co-workers from all over the U.S.

On May 25, we had our last Christian Youth In Action® meeting prior to training at Grace Christian University. Most of the leadership were able to meet in person. Two of them met by Zoom. A representative from the university was able to help us with new questions we had with the campus. We were able to tie up some loose strings, but there were more that we needed to get tied up before training. We were able to get a tour of the new townhouses the university had built. They are very nice, and we plan to use two of them. This year, we have had more obstacles than we have had in years past. We have been able to get over some of them, but there are still more to get over. I know that the Lord will get us over them. This tells me that we are going to have awesome training this year. Pray for our leadership team and staff as we finish preparing. There are 46 teens coming from all over Michigan to take the training, three of them from Shoreline. All three of our teens have been working hard at preparing for training and raising funds for the summer. They have raised 40 percent of the $12,000 that is needed for the summer. We are excited that their training has been paid for. The rest needed is for pay and other ministry needs. Pray that the girls will be able to raise the rest needed for the summer. If you would like to help, you can go through PayPal or send a check to the Shoreline office and put “summer ministries” on the memo line.

We plan to have a Teaching Children Effectively Level 1 course in the fall. We are currently looking at holding it in Ludington. The location will be announced at a later date. This course will take place Thursday evenings and Saturdays for four weeks, beginning October 12 and ending November 4. This is a 33-hour college level course designed to help people become more effective in teaching the Gospel to children. If you are interested in taking this course, please contact the office. The cost is $125 which covers your student manual and teaching kit.
