We are coming to the end of our Good News Club® (GNC™) ministry with only two months left until our clubs end for the year. Most of our clubs will be ending in March or April when the schools have spring break. We are so grateful for the many new opportunities that God has brought to our chapter this year. In February, two new GNCs started and five of the clubs that were already going continued to grow and had new children attend. Altogether, 41 new children came to one of our GNCs in February!
In February, God also reopened a door to a school that has been closed to having after school programs for two years! Before COVID, we had GNCs at the upper and lower elementaries of the Fremont Public Schools. We have finally been able to re-start the GNC in the lower elementary for the children from both schools to attend. In the very first week, we were so excited to see 23 children come and fill up nearly every single chair in our classroom! The club has now met for four weeks and has 27 children enrolled. We now have more opportunities to advertise for this club and have received more encouragement from staff in the school this year than we did pre-COVID. Please pray for the children to continue their excitement for this club so they continue to come, for some of our volunteers at this club who are brand new teachers, and for some of the children in this club we have already found out come from very difficult home lives.
Valentine Party
On February 5, we had another Party Club at the Ladder in Shelby. All the Party Clubs that we have had the past months have only had up to 11 children. So, both we and the Ladder staff planned for 10 to 20 children. The first child came half an hour before the club was scheduled to start. Ten minutes later, more children started to come. When we checked in the 12th child, I was really excited because this was going to be our biggest Party Club of the year. The children kept coming and coming. When the number of children passed 40, Kathy went out to get more treats, but by the time she got back, we had 52 children enrolled so she had to go out to get more treats. This was very, very exciting. This was the biggest club that we have had since I became the director of Shoreline. The children ranged in age from 4 to 14. All the children enjoyed the club and were well behaved. There were also 16 parents who stayed for the club. It was a great blessing to see all these children and parents come to this club. We will have another Party Club in March.
We are all wishing that summer was here already, not just for the nice weather but because it’s one of our busiest and most exciting times for ministry! We already have four 5-Day Clubs (5DC) scheduled and are praying for another 14 to be scheduled by the end of June to bring us to our goal of 18 clubs. We have seen a greater interest from children this year to learn from God’s Word and we need people and churches who will open their doors or lawn to them this summer so they have the opportunity to learn. If anyone is interested in scheduling a 5DC at your house or church or you would like to contribute to these clubs by donating prizes or funds, please call our office at 231-861-2225 and we would love to talk to you! Clubs will be scheduled for July and August, let us know what time of day works best for you.
In just three months, Christian Youth in Action® (CYIA™) will begin. The planning is coming together and we are all getting excited. At this point, we have five teens in Shoreline that are planning to go to CYIA. Three of them have their applications in and are starting the preparation for training. They are working on letters to send out to raise support for the summer. Three of the teens will be paid summer missionaries, and have to raise more to cover their pay. As of right now, we need to raise $15,000 to cover all the teens’ summer needs. This may go up if more sign up. There are plans for a fundraiser to help with support. One of the ongoing fundraisers is a pop can collection. If you have any pop cans that you would like to give to the teens to help them in different ways, you can call the office for us to pick them up or you can bring them to the office. Please pray for our teens as they prepare and raise funds for the summer.
Teen Activity
On February 11, we had a game night with the teens. Three of our teens were able to come to the Rumbles house for a night of fun. We made personal pizzas for food, and later we made dessert pizza. All were very good. We played ping pong, foosball, and other board games. All of the teens that came had a great time together. I was able to share some plans for the summer. There are plans to have another get-together in March.
