Director’s Address
The Lord has already given us an exciting summer, and we are just getting started. Our first event of the summer was the National Asparagus Festival in Hart. The Lord gave us good weather for the festival, with just a little bit of rain. The first day of the festival was slow with just 25 people coming through. The second day was very, very busy. There was a total of 123 people that came through to hear the Gospel. We were also able to do face painting, and had some puzzles for the older teens or adults to do. Our total for the weekend was 148 contacts, which was much better than last year.
June 20–29, we were at Grace Christian University for our Christian Youth in Action® training. All of us had the opportunity to take part in this training. Wendy served as education coordinator, and was in charge of all the teaching assignments, and study group leaders. This was a very big job for her to do, and she did very well. She also taught classes throughout the training. I served as the assistant director, and also taught two different classes during the training. One of the classes was kind of last minute, but it was a class that I have taught before, and with the Lord’s help it went really well. Virginia also came for a day to teach classes. We had a total of 44 teens from around the state that came to this training. Two were from our chapter. Hailey Westerbeek served as student staff this year. So, she was in charge of a study group, and participated in demonstration lessons. Taylor Westerbeek was a Level 2 student which meant she had to learn to teach Bible lessons. Taylor plans to work with us this summer. All the students did very well and we enjoyed working with them. There was also a training in Bambi Lake for the Detroit area teens. There were 26 at that training. It was sad to see training end, but I’m excited to hear what the Lord is doing in these teens lives this summer.
While we were at training, there was a Family Vacation Bible School in Mears led by Tom and Evlyn Bump. The first night, they had the ark at the street party in the village. They were able to share the Gospel with 25 people. The rest of VBS was in the evening. They had a total of 34 people in attendance during the week, with four people coming to know Christ as Savior.
Praise the Lord for what he has done.

Su
mmer is in full swing, but we are starting to work on school year ministries. Last school year, we had 11 clubs, with over 200 children in attendance, and we saw 25 pray to receive Christ as Savior. This year, we are hoping to have 12 clubs or more if the Lord allows. We would also like to be able to get back in some of the schools where we been in the past. In order to do that, we need volunteers. Last year, one of our Good News Club® teachers retired and moved out of the area. So, we need a replacement for her in the club in Scottsville. Pray and ask the Lord if this is something He would want you to do to reach more boys and girls for Christ. Our Good News Club teachers fellowships will start September 10 at 11 AM, and will meet monthly through March. Clubs will be starting at the end of September and beginning of October. Will you come help us?
We are offering another Teaching Children Effectively™ level I course this fall. We plan to meet on four Thursday night’s and four Saturday’s. All sessions are required to be able to complete the course. This course will start October 11, and the location will be determined at a later date. The other attachment is the registration form for this course that tells you all the dates and times and the cost of the course. We would like it lease five people to take this course. If you have any questions at all, please contact Wendy Southwell at our office number.
